Spring time in Japan is a time for people to flock to parks to see beautiful sakura. And when summer arrives, people gather to watch fireworks. However, with all these visitors, there is the danger of the parks turning into a sea of blankets and chairs, something which detracts from the natural beauty. With that in mind, I have designed TATAMI, a stylish, yet unassuming mat inspired by the traditional floor cover found in Japanese homes, temples and shrines. TATAMI complements the natural beauty of the park, allowing tourists and residents alike to enjoy sakura and fireworks in all their splendor.
